The New Faces Of Classic Film Steel Magnolias

Classic movies transcend time.The impact of iconic movies leads to the inevitable remake decades later. The 1989 Steel Magnolias film is no exception, and is being remade as a Lifetime movie starring a predominantly black cast. And like the original with heavy hitter actresses such as Sally Field, Julia Roberts and Shirley MacLaine, the 2012 remake has enlisted some of Hollywoods top A-listers to bring a group of six friends together in more modern times.

Steel Magnolias (personally a childhood favorite) follows the lives of a close-knit circle of friends in a small town in Louisiana. Queen Latifah plays MLynn (Sally Field), Condola Rashad as Shelby (Julia Roberts), Alfre Woodard as Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine), Phylicia Rashad as Clairee (Olympia Dukakis), Jill Scott as Truvy (Dolly Parton) and Adepero Oduye as Annelle (Daryl Hannah) are the present day southern belles. Much of the story revolves around Truvys Beauty Parlor where the women share the ups and downs of life. It is both hilarious and heartbreaking film. Due to the original masterpiece the new cast has a lot of pressure to get it right. Given the line-up were excited to see what this cast has in store.
