This character study is for all the middle-age people entering college for the first time after losing a job.
Tom Hanks plays Larry, a decent, determined, simple guy forced to re-examine his life. But he's no Forrest Gump.
Hanks, who also co-wrote and directed, takes on too much of the load, emptying his bag of acting tricks.
The rest of the cast is slightly annoying, including Julia Roberts as a burned-out professor whom Larry falls for.
George Takei co-stars as an economics professor with an odd, booming laugh.
