Julia ROberts in Mirror Mirror

Image
Tarsem Singhs adaptation of a Grimm fairy tale and Disney classic Mirror Mirror opened on Friday. The latest live action adaptation of Snow White features Lily Collins as Snow White opposite Hollywood sweetheart Julia Roberts as the wicked stepmother. The 23-year old daughter of British musician Phil Collins has done some notable films such as The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock, Priest with Paul Bettany and Abduction opposite Twilight saga star Taylor Lautner. What makes this latest outing different aside from being a live action adaptation of a Disney classic is that Collins got to work with a Hollywood icon. Roberts has gone on a hiatus to focus on her family. The 44-year old star still remains a recognizable name, appearing in movies over a span of 24 years but she has not outdone her hit movies since the 1990s including Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride and Erin Brockovich. Singhs Mirror Mirror may not be the right vehicle for Roberts to reclaim her status in the top eche

Vegetable grower Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts grows her own lettuce. The 'Mirror, Mirror' actress says she and husband Danny Moder try to be as environmentally-friendly as possible so they produce their own vegetables and try not to waste anything they eat. Julia - who has three children, seven-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, and Henry, four, with Danny said: 'We very much try to limit our impact. A family of five can produce a lot of waste, so we compost and have chickens, so that takes care of most of our food waste. We don't use any superfluous paper products in our house, no paper towels or Ziploc bags for lunches. In fact, our school has a waste-free lunch policy. We have solar shingles on our roof, I drive a bio-diesel and a Prius. 'We have a lettuce garden because I don't like to buy lettuce in a plastic box. That just makes me have a pain in my stomach.' There's not a drop of America's Sweetheart in Julia Robert 's portrayal of Mirror Mirror 's Evil Queen Clementianna. But the mom to 7-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 4-year-old Henry doesn't know if she's ready to let her three kids with hubby Danny Moder , 43, see their mom in such a villainous role. "I think my kids are too young to see the movie, considering my part," Roberts tells Us Weekly of playing Snow White's tormentor. Julia Roberts covered in poo for movie

Julia Roberts has revealed it was 'torture' being covered in bird poo for her latest role in 'Mirror Mirror'. The actress - famous for starring in 'Pretty Woman' and 'Notting Hill' - plays the evil Queen Clementianna in the movie, which is based on the 'Snow White' story and part of the beauty regime for the part involved bird faeces being applied to her skin. Although Julia hated it, director Tarsem Singh revelled in her pain. The 44-year-old star told the Metro newspaper: 'All that 'beauty' stuff was so disgusting. Tarsem loved every minute of it and I was tortured. I think he took great delight in it.' Once out of make-up, Julia found it particularly 'fun' playing the villainous character because she usually portrays good guys but 'Mirror, Mirror' gave her the freedom to 'go off the rails in any direction'. She said: 'It was fun to play this villain, because no real rules of syntax or reality applied

Julia Roberts is a ham in 'Mirror Mirror'

Reprinted from Friday's editions. By Steven Rea INQUIRER MOVIE CRITIC If you're going to serve up an old fairy tale, you may as well make it look dazzling. And Tarsem Singh, the director of Mirror Mirror, has certainly done that. From its "once upon a time" animated intro to its swooping views of a golden-domed castle perched atop a precipice, to the bellowslike stilts worn by a certain septet of little people in this new take on the old Snow White yarn, everything looks, well, fantastic. The costumes, designed by the late, great Eiko Ishioka, add splendor and artistry to what, in the end, is a not terribly inventive or surprising variation on the oft-told story collected by those brothers Grimm: An aging and vainglorious queen takes a look at the pale-skinned young princess in her care and decides to have her offed, lest she be deemed the most beautiful, desirable creature in the land. Hamming it up richly, and for the most part snappily, as the nasty Queen is Julia

Jan Thijs/AP/Relativity Media Roberts as the queen. Once upon a time, a very long time ago in the magical Wood of Holly, lived a fabulous Queen named Julia . She ruled her kingdom for many years and wore many masks. She was a pretty woman and a runaway bride, and a guest at her best friends wedding. She even won a small golden statue for playing a woman named Erin (or maybe just for wearing that painful push-up bra). But then an evil spell came over Queen Julia. And there was a dark decade of duplicity, and eating praying and loving, and dallying with knaves named Charlie Wilson and Larry Crowne . And her magical cackle was stilled, and her courtiers lamented. But now that spell has been lifted, for there is Mirror Mirror, a new version of Snow White. And guess who plays the Evil Queen? No, not Nathan Lane. Please. (Although that would have been wonderful.) He plays her manservant. Queen Julia plays the Evil Queen, and she is vain and brittle, and imperious and rather pleased with her

Julia Roberts reflects on evil in 'Mirror Mirror'

AFPFriday, Mar 30, 2012 LOS ANGELES - Julia Roberts has taken time off from Hollywood of late to focus on her three young children - but admits she enjoys being back on the big screen, as a fairytale villain in her latest movie. Playing the evil Queen in "Mirror Mirror," a new version of Snow White, marks a departure for the US actress, whose career has included everything from campaigning lawyer to high-class call girl and celebrity love interest. Directed by Indian filmmaker Tarsem Singh - who made last year's "Immortals" - the movie based on the famous Brothers Grimm children's tale opens in the United States on Friday. Roberts, who at 44 remains one of Hollywood's most bankable stars, made her name in films including 1990's "Pretty Woman" and "Erin Brockovich" in 2000, and said she never thought she would appear in a fairy tale. "Just the one sentence pitched over the phone: 'Hey, they're doing this Snow White ada

Julia Roberts ' 'Mirror Mirror' is a Grimm production

Mirror, mirror on the wall, what's the fairest feature film of them all? "Mirror, Mirror," a comedy based on the story of Snow White, isn't even in the running. All it's going to do is leave you grumpy. "Mirror, Mirror" offers a comedic -- and the term's very loosely applied here -- look at the battle between Snow White (Lily Collins) and the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts) to rule the kingdom. The pair also get into a tussle over the heart of the charming Prince Alcott (Armie Hammer). The only hope for Snow is that her seven new vertically challenged friends can help her become a match for the Queen. The film is beautifully shot, not surprising as it comes from director Tarsem Singh. His past works include the hypnotically beautiful "The Cell" and the elegantly filmed "The Fall." His latest film has a great look but no depth. The screenplay by Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller is uninspired and -- even worse -- devoid of any real humor

Rating Julia Roberts' best-reviewed films

In collaboration with Rotten Tomatoes and its parent company, Flixster, The Chronicle presents the critical consensus of Julia Roberts' best-reviewed films. Her latest film, "Mirror Mirror," is at Bay Area theaters. (The figure listed is the percentage of critics who have rated the film positively, based on reviews listed at rottentomatoes.com.) 1. Erin Brockovich (2000) 83% Taking full advantage of Julia Roberts' considerable talent and appeal, this film, which garnered a best actress Oscar for Roberts, overcomes character and plot issues to deliver a smart, thoughtful and funny legal drama. 2. Notting Hill (1999) 83% Though it's light on emotional depth, this is a charming crowd pleaser, thanks largely to likable performances from Roberts and Hugh Grant. 3. Ocean's Eleven (2001) 82% This film, as fast-paced, witty and entertaining as it is star-studded and coolly stylish, offers a well-seasoned serving of popcorn entertainment, and Roberts shines as a wom

Julia Roberts Outshines Lily Collins In 'mirror Mirror'?

Mirror Mirror could well prove to be the breakthrough role that Lily Collins has been waiting for, as long as the reviews for the film - and her performance in it - turn out in her favor. Thus far however, Lily's (daughter of the musician Phil Collins) performance seems to have generated mixed opinions. Most of the movie's reviews seem to have focused on JULIA ROBERT's stellar performance as the evil queen, rather than Lily's performance as Snow White. The Chicago Tribune review praises Collins, saying that she "is a convincing foil for Roberts' jealous Queen, personifying intelligence, innate goodness and fairest-of-them-all femininity." Another Chicago publication, though - the Chicago Sun-Times, is less complimentary, with Roger Ebert describing the movie as "sort of boring, adding that "there's not much energy in the two places it should really be felt: Between the Queen and Snow White, and between Snow and the Prince." He doesn'

Modern fame leads to rehab: Julia Roberts

Image
Home > News > hollywood-news London, March 28 : Actress Julia Roberts is thankful that she entered showbiz in the 1980s as she finds modern fame leads one to rehab. "What's new is that we live in a culture of meanness. My experience with fame 25 years ago was a gradual progression. These days, it's catapulting. There's the express elevator and there's rehab and one leads to the other,"she told Australia's Sunday Telegraph. The actress tackled a number of roles in the early days of her career, but it was her portrayal of prostitute Vivian in 1990 film "Pretty Woman" which saw her achieve global stardom. "Everybody is trying to write something, everybody has an opinion. There's too much scrutiny and there's too many beasts that have to be fed. It's a little bit crazy," dailystar.co.uk quoted her as saying. (IANS) Subscribe RSS Feeds Post your comment Read other hollywood-news stories Visit Home Page for fresh content Y
