Julia Roberts Outshines Lily Collins In 'mirror Mirror'?

Mirror Mirror could well prove to be the breakthrough role that Lily Collins has been waiting for, as long as the reviews for the film - and her performance in it - turn out in her favor. Thus far however, Lily's (daughter of the musician Phil Collins) performance seems to have generated mixed opinions.

Most of the movie's reviews seem to have focused on JULIA ROBERT's stellar performance as the evil queen, rather than Lily's performance as Snow White. The Chicago Tribune review praises Collins, saying that she "is a convincing foil for Roberts' jealous Queen, personifying intelligence, innate goodness and fairest-of-them-all femininity." Another Chicago publication, though - the Chicago Sun-Times, is less complimentary, with Roger Ebert describing the movie as "sort of boring, adding that "there's not much energy in the two places it should really be felt: Between the Queen and Snow White, and between Snow and the Prince." He doesn't comment in depth of Lily's performance, but takes a moment to mention the "uncanny" fact that she looks a lot like Audrey Hepburn in the movie.

According to Forbes, an embargo was placed on reviews until later this evening, to prevent any negative reviews from damaging tomorrow's opening box office sales. This would suggest that the studio doesn't have a huge amount of faith in the film, but still has one very expensive movie star (Julia Roberts) to pay. How well Lily Collins' career will fare remains to be seen.
