New ambulance service looking to expand into Mingo

WILLIAMSON - Ed Daughtery has been an emergency responder for 20 years, but had to leave Mingo County to find employment as an emergency medical technician.
I worked for two ambulance companies that went under, he said. I always said, if I was ever in the position, I would help the people of Mingo County get the service they deserve.
Daughtery is client relations manager for Questcare EMS, and he spoke to the Mingo County Commission about his companys intention to expand into the county.
The company wants to start with a station in Delbarton with two ambulances, and to locate the company headquarters for Mingo County Operations there. Company President Kevin Fairlie said they have already acquired a license to do business in West Virginia.
Daughtery said the company would hire 15! Mingo C ounty residents, and that in fact some EMTs from the county had already approached him about working for Questcare.
Questcare EMS is a division of Questcare, LLC which operates Questcares ambulance companies in the southeast United States. Questcare EMS operates in four counties in Kentucky, Pike, Floyd, Johnson and Magoffin. They have over 100 employees and 25 ambulances.
Commissioner Greg Hootie Smith said he has been concerned about ambulance service to the county.
We have got to fix this problem, Smith said. Of course, in West Virginia, anyone can open a business. But it is up to our discretion who to put on the list of companies who are dispatched by 911. And we need to do our due diligence.
The Commission took the matter under advisement, and assured Daughtery they would research the company thoroughly before coming to a decision regarding the matter.
We dont want to disturb anything, Daughtery told MCC. We just want a chance. I am passionate about Mingo County, I will not let this fail.
