It was only last month that we revealed some of the stranger beauty secret's behind the Victorias Secret girls perfectly-presented selves. Who knew that Karolina Kurkova has an unusual habit of rubbing lemon juice on to her face to achieve her glowing complexion, whilst Miranda Kerr slathers the tips of her hair with olive oil to keep her trademark locks enviably glossy? On top of that, we also discovered that many models swear by an at-home face mask made from honey and, the morning after the night before favourite, asprin!
If that wasnt bizarre enough, this morning we have just heard that Julia Roberts credits her beautiful white teeth to a similarly strange ingredient; baking soda (yep, thats right!) The Erin Brockovich star, famed for her dazzling smile, has revealed that her strange beauty secret runs in the family: I brush (my teeth) with baking soda...(My grandfather) would put a big heaping mound of it on his toothbrush. He only had one cavity in his entire life".
Usually confined to the kitchen cupboard and only seeing the light of day when The Great British Bake Off has inspired an uncharacteristic urge to bake, baking soda may not seem like an obvious addition to your beauty regime. However, it does have recognised cleaning and whitening properties. It gently cleanses by dissolving plaque around the teeth and penetrates the enamel resulting in a cleaner and whiter smile.
