Ewan McGregor cast as Julia Roberts husband in 'August: Osage County'

Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of August: Osage County, starring Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep.

McGregor will play Roberts's estranged husband Bill Fordham in the new black comedy, based on the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play of the same name by Tracy Letts, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Julia Roberts at the 'Eat, Pray, Love' UK film premiere

August: Osage County tells of the relationship between a pill-popping mother (Streep) and her family, including her daughter Barbara (Roberts).

McGregor's character left Barbara for one of his students at a college he teaches.

John Wells is directing from a script also penned by Letts, which is produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

August: Osage County also stars Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney and Juliette Lewis. Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch is said to be in talks to join the movie too.
