George Clooney, Julia Roberts sue Digital Projection of Kennesaw

Actor George Clooney and actress Julia Roberts are suing a Kennesaw-based audio-visual company, accusing it of unauthorized use of their images in advertising and promotions, and invasion of privacy.

The suit against Digital Projection Inc. and others connected with the company was filed last Friday in federal court in Atlanta. It seeks damages and a court order blocking the companys continued use of the images.

Efforts were being made Tuesday to get reaction from Digital Projection and lawyers for Clooney and Roberts.

Digital Projection manufactures and distributes high-end 3-D and LED projectors used by digital cinemas, commercial entertainment companies, churches, live event stagers and home theater companies. Digital Projections has won two Emmys for outstanding achievements in engineering development.

Clooney and Roberts, who uses her married name Moder in the suit, are both Oscar winners who appeared together in the 2001 movie Oceans Eleven. They accuse Digital Projection of using their images in advertising, on its website, and in brochures, newsletters and emails without permission.

The defendants have infringed on plaintiffs rights to be left alone and their right to control the use of their images, identities, personas, in direct violation of Georgia privacy laws, the suit says.

Clooney and Roberts filed similar suits against Digital Projection and a Canadian company, Beyond Audio Inc., in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Earlier this year, actor and director Clint Eastwood sued a furniture company for using his image to promote its business.
